Step 1: Brainstorm

Get this activity started with a little brainstorm! Ask your students to think of different adjectives. Specifically, ask them to think of adjectives that describe themselves or others. Some examples may include kind, loving, adventurous, brave, fun, silly, short, tall, small, handsome, beautiful, and so on. Use this as an opportunity to teach or review what adjectives are and how and when they are used. Display the final brainstorm list on the board.

Step 2: Create!

Instruct students to pick a colorful sheet of paper and cut a rectangle about 3 inches by 6 or 7 inches. You may wish to have these pre-cut for students, or have a template available to trace.

Next, fold the paper accordion style. The more folds, the more adjectives kids can choose during the next step. We recommended between 6–10 folds, but you know your learners best!

Step 3: Write!

Ask the kids to look at the brainstormed list of adjectives and identify ones that describe themselves. Students may also be encouraged to think of other adjectives not already written. On one side of the accordion paper, kids will write a different adjective in each box created by the folds.

Step 4: Make the Person!

The final step of this fun activity is to turn the piece of paper into a person! Instruct your students to cut out different shapes to serve as the head, two arms, and two legs. Glue these onto the rectangle. Decorate as desired! Encourage your kids to make the person look like themselves.

These cute little adjective people are perfect for putting on display in your classroom or in the hallway.
